The Narrative Program

Want to make your story a reality? Our Narrative Program provides students with the opportunity to have their screenplay financed and produced by Frames Per Second.

After the FPS Board and Faculty Advisor select one script for the Freshmen Narrative and one script for the Spring Narrative, we support the writer in selecting a key crew. The key crew then takes the reins and pre-production begins. Filming takes place at the beginning of the Spring Semester, working towards an end-of-the-year screening for all Emersonians to attend. From pre to post-production, we will help you with everything from accessing industry-standard equipment to distributing your film to film festivals!

All screenplays submitted following the established guidelines will be reviewed anonymously by the Board.

Hear from previous Narrative Program filmmakers

“The Frames Per Second Freshmen narrative was an incredible learning experience that was un-paralleled coming into Emerson as a first year. It gave me the opportunity to meet other passionate Emerson students, make friends, and mentors! Most importantly it allowed me to tell a story that’s important—on a personal level and for the world to hear.”

- Oliver Schaffer

“Working on my Freshmen Narrative “Merry Go Round” truly led me to meet so many fellow freshman whose unique talents & passions joined together to create something really special! I got to work with a crew of 23 people who each added so much to the project and allowed me to learn what it means to me to be a director. We spent our semester meeting, rehearsing, planning, shooting (in a freezing & magical weekend), sledding down hills during breaks, shaking hand warmers, and riding a merry go round in another state to celebrate the wrap of the weekend. I would be content with all the memories and friendships I made from the experience alone, but having a final product that truly captured my first year at Emerson & having had the resources to do so is something so special and unique to the opportunity of the Freshmen Narrative.”
